AIMS

Amplify the voices of adolescent girls living in poverty and provide opportunities for their experiences and perspectives to be shared with a wide range of audiences and stakeholders

Provide safe spaces and opportunities for girls to grow in self-confidence, critical consciousness, and awareness

Support the development and dissemination of powerful videos that convey the experiences and perspectives of adolescent girls living in poverty

Increase access to technology for girls from marginalised communities, harnessing its potential for personal/community transformation and bridging the digital divide

Empower girls to explore, understand and analyse their circumstances and those of their peers and the wider community, as part of a process towards developing strategies for positive change from the grassroots

Strengthen and support the work of organisations engaging girls as leaders and key agents of change within marginalised and impoverished communities

Develop the capacity of organisations which work with girls, to use participatory video to map and document impacts and share outcomes and stories of change

Spread the use of participatory video as a dynamic and powerful tool by developing skills and capacity at the grassroots level in facilitation, so they are able to to train girls within and beyond their immediate communities

Promote the use of visual storytelling techniques as a gateway for learning and exchange between project beneficiaries, organisations, grantors and beyond

Work with selected Nike Foundation partners to design and implement each stage of the program, including a thorough qualitative monitoring and evaluation approach specific to each project that is informed by beneficiaries

Strengthen a culture of learning within selected partner organisations that extends to involving the beneficiaries they serve and that places significant value on collective reflection to inform planning and evaluation
OUTCOMES
-
A full capacity building program successfully delivered for Population Council Guatemala and BRAC Uganda within the agreed program timeframe

Successfully carried out monitoring and evaluation strategies and processes (using participatory video techniques) designed and implemented according to each specific project and local needs, with each selected Nike Foundation partner
-
2 staff and 10 girl beneficiaries in each country are now able to facilitate participatoryvideo and other participatory games and exercises
-
All the trainees can now plan and shoot their own short films, dramas or interviews, theycan edit material, use a computer and Internet and facilitate community screenings
-
All trainees in each country are equipped with the tools, skills and knowledge to use themost significant change technique and analyse stories of change to document andshare impacts
-
Each partner is equipped with the necessary audio/visual equipment to carry on thiswork including a computer editing suite

A workshop bringing together selected participants from the two countries, wasorganised and facilitated for Stage Four in Istanbul, Turkey. They were able to meeteach other, peer review one another’s work, share learning and participate at the AWID2012 Forum

Participating girls and organisations shared program outputs across countries andinteracted online during the 3 capacity building stages and face-to-face during Stage 4.Social networking spaces (one per partner organisation) set up and facilitated toencourage sharing among participating girls

Sustainability plans made to integrate the methodology into Population CouncilGuatemala and BRAC Uganda as a cross-cutting tool able to strengthen multiplestrategic goals and focused areas of delivery
